Eclipse 3.2 and the projects of the Callisto release, which were released on Friday by the Eclipse Foundation, are immediately available to download. Yoxos on Demand is a Web 2.0 application that can be used to configure individual downloads from Eclipse and Eclipse extensions (plug-ins). The application guarantees that any combination of Eclipse and plugins will function stably and delivers the software as a single download. Bjorn Freeman Benson, Director at the Eclipse Foundation comments: "...Callisto is out - and the Foundation website has a "Customize Your Callisto download" web page. Interesting, but not as cool as the Yoxos "Eclipse on Demand"..."Eclipse on Demand" is a web app for selecting and building a custom zip download from a wide selection of plug-ins (more than just the official eclipse.org ones)... So not only is this is a cool and useful application (build your own custom download zip), but the technology that makes it happen is also cool." The increasing complexity of the Eclipse offering and previously no way to get the desired functionality in a single download was an issue that was becoming more pronounced in the community. "Yoxos on Demand" solves this problem by providing users a mechanism to build a working and customized Eclipse platform in a fraction of the time they would otherwise need using traditional channels. With the online application, users get a very good overview of their individual installation and can easily review dependencies and plug-in information. In addition to the individual plug-ins, so-called "Scenarios" package plugins and features for a particular development task such as Web development. Once the user has decided on the plugins, Yoxos delivers the download as a single Zip file. The platform is then kept automatically up-to-date with the integrated Yoxos Install Manager which ensures that all dependencies are included and that the configuration functions properly as a whole. The download service is free of charge and the update service is available as a subscription. Additional information is available at: yoxos.com/ondemand.
