New Eclipse project releases available as customizable packages through Web 2.0 developer portal.
Portland, OR — June 29th, 2007— With the next major release of Eclipse, codenamed Europa available on eclipse.org today, Innoopract, an Eclipse specialist and provider of the popular Yoxos Eclipse Distribution announced a new portal that greatly simplifies the process for creating and downloading custom Eclipse downloads. The Web 2.0 portal called Eclipse Discovery enables developers to choose from all 21 Europa projects plus hundreds of third-party add-ons to create a tailored software bundle as a single download. In addition, Eclipse, under project leadership from Innoopract, has made available new standard download packages.
As Eclipse has evolved from a Java IDE into a multifaceted tooling environment for several programming languages, databases, modeling tools and much more, the task of finding the “right“ set of Eclipse plug-ins for any given development task has become much more challenging. With the next major version of the popular Eclipse software now available, developers benefit from two new innovations in the way they find, evaluate and download their software from the huge range of available Eclipse projects and third-party add-ons.
Firstly, under the project leadership of Innoopract, Eclipse has responded to the requests by developers to reduce the complexity of assembling a bundle of Eclipse software by introducing four new software bundles called packages for four different user roles: Enterprise, Java, C and Plug-in developer.
Innoopract has also expanded its own offerings to further meet the demands of the Eclipse development community. With the company’s new portal, Eclipse Discovery (www.yoxos.com/eclipsediscovery), users are given a Web 2.0 interface to the largest library of Eclipse components or plug-ins available from which they can quickly and easily create customized download packages.
Eclipse Discovery is the second generation of Innoopract’s “On Demand” download service based on its Yoxos Eclipse Distribution. Just like the previous version that has earned high marks from over 10,000 users on EclipsePlug-inCentral, Eclipse Discovery lets users configure a customized integrated bundle of Eclipse plug-ins. The preparation of the single download automatically determines and includes all the necessary dependencies to other plug-ins so that the resulting Eclipse installation always works right from the beginning.
„Eclipse Discovery is a portal where users can find and download Eclipse and all the important add-ons from a single location”, says Jochen Krause, CEO of Innoopract and Board Member of Eclipse, “In our newest download service, we placed particular weight on the interactivity and information sharing between Eclipse users”
Users of Eclipse Discovery now have more information about what other Eclipse developers use and value. Users can create and save plug-in profiles and share these with other developers. Plug-ins can be tagged, commented on or linked to aid in navigating the huge selection of add-ons. In addition, there is integration with other community portals such as del.icio.us, Eclipse Plug-in Central and Eclipse Plug-ins Info. All the information can be subscribed through RSS feeds.
Eclipse Discovery is available immediately at www.yoxos.com/eclipsediscovery . The Portal is free to all users. All Eclipse 3.3 Europa releases will be available today. Registered users can also download third party plug-ins as part of their configurations.
