Company leads the new Eclipse Rich Ajax Platform (RAP) Project
EclipseCon, Santa Clara, CA, - March 5th, 2007- Innoopract, Founding Member of the Eclipse Foundation and leading provider of services and products in the Eclipse environment, announced today that it has become a Strategic Developer Member of the Foundation. Following Nokia and Iona, Innoopract is the third European company to become Strategic Developer. The German company is an elected Eclipse Board member, one of the founding members of the Eclipse Foundation and is a leading supplier of Eclipse distribution and software-as-a-service technology. As Strategic Developer, Innoopract will continue to hold a seat on the Board of Directors and participate in the Architecture, Requirements, and Planning Councils of the Eclipse Foundation.
In its new role as a Strategic Developer, Innoopract will continue to build and establish the RAP platform (http://www.eclipse.org/rap/) as an enterprise application platform. RAP extends Eclipse to a platform for Ajax applications.
"Eclipse has already conquered the tooling market in record time and changed the mechanism of the software market due to its component based approach. We are happy to contribute through our Strategic Membership and through the RAP project by now realizing this potential in the field of application platforms", said Jochen Krause, CEO of Innoopract and Member of the Board of Directors of the Eclipse Foundation.
RAP enables for the first time server-side usage of the Eclipse workbench concept and OSGi components for Ajax applications. The platform, to which Innoopract contributed a substantial code base, is also supported by 1&1, the world's largest web hosting company.
"Distribution services are an important complement to the technology produced by the Eclipse community", said Mike Milinkovich, Executive Director of Eclipse. "We welcome the move by Innoopract as a leading company in Eclipse distribution and as a long time Eclipse member and contributor to become a strategic member. With Innoopract's technology contributions in the Ajax and packaging space Eclipse is further expanding its capabilities as a platform for software-as-a-service offerings."
Innoopract is also a contributor to the Eclipse Packaging Project, the g-Eclipse project and Eclipse Plugin Central which it donated to Eclipse with two other member companies last May. The Eclipse Packaging Project will deliver preconfigured and ready-to-install packages of Eclipse Components. Each package will contain a different set of functionality covering a particular field of interest. The first packages will be available in conjunction with the Eclipse Europa Release next June at eclipse.org.
The g-Eclipse project currently develops an Eclipse-based workbench for grid computing in close cooperation with the European Union and several research facilities. The goal is to develop Eclipse-based tooling standards for using grid computing and facilitate access to existing grid infrastructures.
Innoopract has offices in Karlsruhe and Munich, Germany and in Portland, Oregon USA. Innoopract supports companies in among others, the Automotive, IT, Telecommunication, Financial and Healthcare Industries.
